President
As president and founder of Brain Engineering, Mary
Anne works both the frontline in surveying and platting
and deals with all administrative and managerial issues
of the business, such as accounting, human resources
and marketing. Her diversified experience gives Brain
Engineering a versatile, knowledgeable and proficient
president. Along with the others at Brain Engineering,
her talents and ambition are why Brain Engineering's
reputation and standing in the Cedar Rapids community
is so well-known. |

S. Michael Brain, P.E, LS
Vice President, Principal Engineer & Surveyor
Mike serves as Vice-President, and Principal Engineer and Surveyor for Brain Engineering. With over 25-years of surveying and engineering knowledge in Iowa, Mike’s expertise includes street, sewer and water design, subdivision layout, and boundary surveys. He has developed a solid working relationship with area developers, contractors, and municipal officials. Mike also has experience in right-of-way acquisition for the Iowa Department of Transportation.
In addition, Mike has taken specialized classes in Total Quality Management and the Dale Carnegie Sales and Management Course. Mike has a B.S. in Engineering Operations from Iowa State University and is a registered professional engineer in Iowa and a professional land surveyor in Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Mike is a member of the Cedar Rapids Chapter of the Iowa Engineering Society and the Society of Land Surveyors of Iowa. |

Daniel L. Schmidt, P.E.
Project Manager/Design Engineer
Dan has extensive experience in road design; water
main and sanitary sewer design; storm water management;
erosion control; site grading; and design. In addition
to his technical skills, we have many satisfied repeat
clients because of Dan's outstanding abilities and
his personable attitude.
Dan has also had specialized training in Total Quality
Management. A graduate from Iowa State’s Civil
Engineering program, Dan is a registered professional
engineer in Iowa.
Dan is a member of the Cedar Rapids Chapter of the Iowa Engineering Society. He has served on the IES Scholarship Committee for several years. |

Clarence J. Walton, LS
Land Surveyor
Clarence serves as Land Surveyor with Brain Engineering,
Inc. and has extensive experience of all types of land
surveying. His responsibilities include preliminary
and layout surveys for the storm sewers, sanitary sewers,
water mains, elevated water tanks, streets, highways,
bridges, and railroads, as well as construction staking.
He also has experience in right-of-way acquisition surveys,
photo control surveys, and ALTA/ACSM surveys. Clarence
is a graduate of Iowa State University and is a professional
land surveyor, registered in Iowa. |

Kevin Bradshaw, LS
Crew Chief
Kevin recently received his certification as a professional Land Surveyor in Iowa. Kevin serves as Survey Party Chief and is also responsible for research and estimating for construction projects. Kevin is very knowledgeable and lends his expertise to boundary surveys, ALTA/ACSM, topographic, and construction surveys.
Kevin is a graduate of Iowa State University and is a new member of the Society of Land Surveyors of Iowa. |

Douglas F. Brain, E.I.
Doug is a 2005-graduate of Iowa State University. He has worked on the survey crew and has been learning to transform his college experiences into actual engineering practice. He has been drafting plats, and designing site plans.
Doug is a member of the Cedar Rapids Chapter of the Iowa Engineering Society, and is also a member of El Kahir Shrine and the Revvin’ Fezzes.
